4 Most Common Acne Myths
There are many myths surrounding acne that many of us believe to be true as these are things that are past down from generation to generation. The most common myths are also passed on to us from friends and family in an attempt to help us clear up our acne problem. The problem with these myths is not only being they are not true but some can actually cause more severe acne outbreaks. Let us take a look at the four most common acne myths.
This is the worst one as it can cause more severe outbreaks of acne. A dirty face or as some prefer to call it, poor hygiene. It is believed that if you scrub your face frequently and hard to remove dirt, grime, and oils you will not have or get acne. This could not be further from the truth. The truth is that all this scrubbing will irritate the skin causing more severe outbreaks of acne. Instead of frequent and hard scrubbing of the face, only wash your face twice a day gently, use a mild soap or cleanser, and do not use anything other than your hands and fingertips. Washcloth and scrub pads will irritate the skin and this is what you need to avoid. I love chocolate and fried foods like french-fries, but I cannot eat them because they make me break out! Many scientific studies have not been able to find a connection between ones diet and acne. In other words it does not matter what you eat it will not affect your acne one way or the other. You should always maintain a healthy diet, it just makes sense. Acne is not harmful and is no big deal, it is just a cosmetic disease. True acne only affects the way you look and is not harmful or a serious threat to your health but, in severe cases of acne permanent scarring can occur. Besides permanent scarring, the combination of scars and acne can have an effect on how someone feels about their self, which in turn can affect ones life. This is another one I have heard from friends and family alike. There is not much you can do about acne other than let it run its course, everyone gets acne when they are young but it always goes away as you get older. This is not true at all, with the products on the market today, you can start to see your acne clear up in as little as three days. If you have been using, or are using, over the counter acne treatments, which are not working, contact a dermatologist, there is no reason to live with acne or scarring from acne.
